Mythbusters in HD?
This week’s episode of Mythbusters had a note at the beginning claiming that it was broadcast in HD, which got me very excited. It’s been near the top of my list of shows that should be in HD ever since I got my HD TV (The Wire
is at the very top). So imagine my surprise when Discovery HD Theater showed no trace of Mythbusters in its lineup. Apparently I’m not alone and quite a few of you have been coming to TiFaux looking for answers. I have answers, but I don’t have good news.
It seems there are now two Discovery HD channels. The old “Discovery HD Theater” home of HD favorites like Sunrise Earth, and the new “Discovery HD” which is a simulcast of the regular Discovery channel but with HD programming when available. Like the broadcast channels do it. The channel launched on Wednesday and is currently only available to Dish Network subscribers. I can only assume that keeping Mythbusters off Discovery HD Theater is a bargaining ploy to get other cable companies to cough up the dough for the extra channel.
As an extremely reluctant Time Warner subscriber, I hope they add Discovery HD soon. Dish Network is looking very tempting.
