The Funk: Malajube
isn’t exactly new. In fact, this video is more than a year old. But there’s a chance you haven’t heard of them, so here we go.
I first saw Malajube play live when they played in D.C. with (who, I realized, only really have one song I am enthusiastic about — the title track to Anti-Anti). Even though I had never heard them before, I was quite charmed by the lads. Maybe it was the fact that the singer kept his silly hat on for the entire set, making him bear an uncanny resemblance to . Maybe it was their French Canadian accents (like Celine, only indie!) or maybe it was their faux bitterness about Washington stealing the Expos.
God, I love Canadians… But, I digress.
Malajube’s style could be described, I suppose, as fairly straight-ahead rock with keyboard embellishments. Oh, and they sing in French — so that satisfies my kitsch requirements.
The following is the video for my favorite song of theirs: “Montreal -40.”[kml_flashembed movie="/6oThf3jjg1Y" width="425" height="350" wmode="transparent" /]
